PBKS coach Sanjay Bangar shared concerning news regarding Shikhar Dhawan’s injury, stating that the Punjab skipper could be sidelined for around 7-10 days. Dhawan, who has been leading in runs for PBKS this IPL 2024 season, was notably absent during their recent match against RR, where the home team suffered another defeat.

Bangar, speaking at the post-match press conference following PBKS’s fourth loss of the season, revealed that Dhawan is nursing a shoulder injury, which will keep him out of action for some time. The absence of the experienced opener was keenly felt during their loss to RR, according to Bangar.

“Unfortunately, we missed him due to his shoulder injury. So he’s likely to be out for at least 7-10 days. His experience and ability to perform on such pitches are crucial for us,” said Bangar.

Which Matches Will Dhawan Miss Due to Injury?

As per Bangar’s announcement after the RR match, Dhawan will definitely miss the home game against MI on April 18. His availability for the clash against GT at Mullanpur on April 21 remains uncertain. PBKS might see their captain return for the away game against KKR at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 26. In Dhawan’s absence, Sam Curran is expected to lead the team, as Bangar clarified that he is the designated vice-captain, not Jitesh Sharma.

PBKS Performance Against RR in Dhawan’s Absence

Dhawan’s absence was palpable during the RR game as Atharva Taide, his replacement in the lineup, failed to make a significant impact. The top-order struggled, but a notable innings from Ashutosh Sharma propelled them to 147 runs in 20 overs. In response, RR faced some challenges during their chase, but Shimron Hetmyer’s quick innings ensured their victory by 3 wickets. This loss places PBKS in 8th position on the points table after playing 6 matches, accumulating 4 points.
